75th Anniversary

Celebrating 75 years of transforming lives...

Stritch's 75th anniversary celebration began on Jan. 13, 2012 with the inauguration of Dr. James Loftus as Stritch's eighth president. The inauguration was the first of many events to highlight the University's rich history. 

Events included:

Jan. 13 -- The Inauguration of Dr. James Loftus
With an overall theme of “Service. Faith. Excellence,” the inauguration festivities included a Mass, installation ceremony, and reception. The Most Rev. Archbishop Jerome Listecki was the main celebrant at the Mass, and representatives from across Wisconsin welcomed Dr. Loftus at the installation ceremony.  

March 16 – April 5: Alumni Art Exhibition
This exhibit featured alumni artists' two- and three-dimensional artworks. 

April 25: Annual Alumni Awards
This annual recognition program celebrated the achievement and community impact of Stritch alumni nominated by peers, faculty or staff.

May 19: President's Champagne Reception
Graduating students and their families attended a special reception with the president in Bonaventure Hall to celebrate their graduation and to formally welcome graduates into Stritch’s Alumni Association.

May 20: Spring Commencement Ceremonies
Undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies were held for the first time at the Frontier Airlines Center.

June 3: Second Annual Wolfpack Open Golf Tournament
Friends, players, coaches, and others gathered at Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex, Wis., to help support Wolves Athletics. 

June 12: Saint Clare Center for Catholic Life Mission Evening
At this event, the fifth anniversary of the Saint Clare Center was celebrated, and former Stritch President Sister Mary Lea Schneider, OSF, Ph.D., and Dr. Daniel Scholz, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, were honored as the the first two recipients of the Distinguished Visio and Leadership in Lay Ministry Award.

June 23: President's Winemakers Dinner/Jubiliarian Reunion
This event brought together members of the Tau and Heritage Societies with the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and others for a Mass, reception and winemaker’s dinner to celebrate Stritch’s rich history, including a special induction of the classes of 1961 and 1962 into Stritch’s Jubilarian Society.

Aug. 9: “The Bully, the Bullied and the Bystander: Breaking the Cycle of Violence”
This daylong workshop for teachers with bestselling author and consultant Barbara Coloroso focused on bullying, nonviolent conflict resolution, restorative justice, positive school climate, parenting teaching and school discipline.

Aug. 10-11: Celebrating the Feast Day of Saint Clare
“Celebrating the Call of Clare: 1212-2012” featured Sister Margaret Klotz and Joanne Schatzlein, who discussed Clare’s contributions to the Franciscan charism on the 800th anniversary of her profession of faith. 

Sept. 6: Mass of the Holy Spirit 
This outdoor Mass in Heritage Park marked the official beginning of the academic year.

Oct. 3-10:Franciscan Mission Week
Highlighted by the Transitus evening prayer service commemorating Francis’ death, this week included a number of activities, including the annual Blessing of the Animals and a Mass in honor of St. Francis’s Feast Day.

Oct. 5: Fish Fry
The Stritch community, alumni, friends and neighbors gathered in the Sister Camille Kliebhan Conference Center for all-you-can-eat fish fry, a family fun zone, performances by student musicians, and a bake sale benefiting student organizations.

Oct. 9: Fifth Annual Stritch Showcase Dinner
This annual fundraiser invited the community to take a closer look at the University and support its mission. This event has raised more than $100,000 each year.

Oct. 26-28 and Nov.. 2-4: “Irena's Vow” Theater Performance
This performance, in collaboration with Renaissance Theaterworks, was a powerful display of talent and history based on true accounts of survivors of the Holocaust.

Nov. 1-2: Kendall Lecture Series: Interfaith Dialogue with Dr. Eboo Patel
The Kendall Lecture Series welcomed Dr. Eboo Patel, founder and president of the Interfaith Youth Core, as he discussed interfaith cooperation in higher education and in communities like Milwaukee.

Nov 2: Stritch Wolves Men's Basketball @ Notre Dame
The men’s basketball team took on the NCAA Division I Fighting Irish in South Bend, Ind.

Dec. 15: Winter Commencement
The graduation ceremony at the U.S. Cellular Arena concluded Stritch’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
