Instructional and Curriculum Design Developer I, College of Business and Management
The College of Business and Management is seeking an Instructional Design Developer to provide consultation and support to faculty developing and implementing technology learning applications in various media, venues, and formats. The position will assist and support faculty in the development and implementation of appropriate teaching and learning strategies. The position will assist with the operation, technical maintenance, user support, and training for existing learning environment platforms.
Summary:
Provides, under the direction of the Associate Dean, Instructional Strategy and Design, instructional elements, tools, and content that support effectively infused learning experiences. After receiving direction from the design team and faculty and other stakeholders, the Instructional Design Developer develops written and electronic instructional resources including web, graphics, video, animations, and other rich media elements for CBM courses and projects. The Instructional Design Developer assists with the operation, technical maintenance, user support, and training for existing learning environment platforms.

• Assist with creating and maintaining style and formatting guidelines for all courses
• Create and manipulate rich media pieces for varied learning environments
• Documents projects, content, and environment changes for future reference
• Assist faculty course authors and expert teams with directed assignments
• Provides technical assistance to the Coordinator of Distance Learning as requested
• Provides training under the direction of the Associate Dean, Instructional Strategy and Design
• Participates in team support of CBM Graduate and Undergraduate Schools of Business learning technology and resource needs
• Develops tools, course shells and other reusable templates for learning technology applications
• Provides operating technical assistance for live learning productions
• Provides input to the Associate Dean, Instructional Strategy and Design about purchases, upgrades and maintenance issues encountered by faculty implementing learning technologies
• Participates in relevant professional organizations/events to promote the University, collaborate with peers and to enhance professional development. Seeks out opportunities to exchange innovative ideas and integrate those ideas into existing service delivery
Education and/or Experience:
• Earned Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or related field, required
• One to two years work experience in areas such as developing instructional materials, experience with the implementation of educational software, ability to troubleshoot hardware/software problems relating to instructional technologies
Language Skills:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including instructional, facilitation, and presentation skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on coaching/motivational skills, enthusiasm, and positive attitude
• Ability to conduct research into course development and delivery concepts, as well as technical software issues
• Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
• Highly self motivated and directed
• Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
• Ability to effectively interact in all situations with faculty, staff and other University stakeholders
Computer Skills:
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Experience in the operations and management of a Jenzabar student information system, preferred
Other Qualifications:
• Knowledge of emerging technologies as related to instruction and experience with instructional design theory and technology as well as web technologies, multimedia applications, social media, and synchronous and asynchronous learning systems
• Expertise in learning management systems, web authoring or similar tools with the ability to create online educational materials
• Awareness of usability and accessibility considerations in instructional design
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills working comfortably in both teams and independently
• Must relate as peer with faculty, and work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and technical expertise
Work Environment:
• The work environment for this position is a typical office setting
• Classrooms and labs are on main campus in Milwaukee metropolitan area as well as campuses in distributed sites throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota
• Travel will be required at times to regional offices and remote classroom sites
