Serials/Electronic Resources Management Librarian

This position has primary responsibility for selection, collection development, processing, and overall management of serial & standing order information resources in all formats.

Primary tasks

  • Maintain serial and standing order subscriptions; conduct serials review and cancellation projects as needed.
  • Manage all aspects of serials --  including acquisition, binding, claiming, vendor relations and database management
  • Manage serials check-in by student assistants.
  • Maintain accurate, timely holdings data in library knowledge bases
  • Test & troubleshoot e-resource access points
  • Collect and track e-resource usage statistics
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve and promote access to electronic resources
  • Process purchase order requests for library databases, books and serial publications.
  • Track library acquisitions and provide data support to Library Director for budget planning.

Information Services & Instruction

  • Provide quality assistance to library users during reference desk shifts scheduled during the workday, as well as regular night and weekend shifts
  • Prepare and conduct library instruction sessions based on best teaching practices and collaboration with library colleagues and faculty
  • Develop instructional materials for use in online settings.

Liaison and Acquisitions Services

  • Communicate with assigned departments, maintain regular contact, encourage conversation and recommendations for purchasing of quality resources
  • Partner with faculty to develop and teach library instruction sessions that support learning objectives
  • Build and manage library collection by identifying, evaluating and assisting with selection of information resources that support liaison discipline’s teaching and research missions

Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for Cardinal Stritch University
  • Experience in an academic library setting including public services
  • Knowledge of current serials and electronic resource management practices
  • Knowledge of modern electronic information sources and networked environments.
  • A demonstrated interest in teaching and a strong commitment to student learning, including the application of technology in the effective design and delivery of instruction
  • Familiarity with current trends, standards, and technologies in academic libraries.
  • A strong service orientation, with effective interpersonal, oral, written and online communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a rapidly changing and culturally diverse environment

Education and/or Experience

  • A graduate library degree from an ALA accredited institution
  • Experience working with periodicals, publishing, or e-resources in an academic setting
  • Experience providing instruction to library users in small and large group settings
  • Experience with embedding library services in online courses
  • Database management & programming to integrate resources in learning environments
  • Past participation or interest in participating in professional organizations
  • Time management skills necessary to meet deadlines and set priorities
