Branding and Visual Style Guidelines
To maintain consistency and a strong brand, and to clearly establish
a site's relationship with Stritch, branding and visual style guidelines must
be followed. These guidelines include, but are not limited to, use of logos,
colors, fonts, animated graphics, thumbnail images, and page headers. For
details, see the Graphic Standards Manual.
IMAGES AND IMAGE GALLERIES
- Adding images to your content makes it richer and more
interesting.
- Avoid using copyrighted photos without
permission or images that are not in the public domain.
- Check with the Web Communications team to see if
there are images or image galleries that may provide you with resources.
- If using photographs of people, provide
photograph subjects with the most recent University photo release form. Keep copies of forms on file as long as
image is in use.
- Images must be 72 dpi and under 1M.
- Must be appropriate and are subject to be taken
down if not.
- To edit images, try out a free photo editing software package orĀ contact the Web Communications team for
assistance.
- Only add images through the CMS and follow the
CMS required steps for properly adding, tagging, and placing photos or images
into pages.
MULTIMEDIA
Adding video to your content makes it richer and more
interesting.
The easiest way to create video for use in your section or
Website is to first meet with the Web Communications team to discuss your
ideas, see if any equipment is available for use (HD flip cams, video editing
software, etc.), for guidelines on how to shoot good video, ideal duration of
videos, how to upload videos for review, etc. Remember, short and authentic
video content is great; it doesn't need to be professionally produced and
edited to be effective. However, it should support the overall University brand
and mission, and should be well made and polished.
The University has an official YouTube channel. To have your
video uploaded to the University YouTube channel, contact the Web Communications team for review and approval. Only
content regarding academics, campus events, groups, organizations, and
associations will be considered, due to regulations set by YouTube regarding
academic institutions' content in channels. However, if you have video content
you would like to embed into your departmental or sub section area of the site,
please contact the Web Communications team to get information on how to upload
and embed it for use.
