Professor Joe Soss
Wednesday, March 22 at Noon
Please join the History/Political Science, Sociology, and English Departments in the Kliebahn Center to hear Professor Joe Soss' talk, "The War on the Poor." Professor Soss is one of the authors of the highly acclaimed 2011 book Disciplining the Poor (University of Chicago Press). Soss' expertise is poverty, social welfare policy, and race. Over the past year, he has spoken to many audiences around the country, which discusses how institutions not only never solve poverty but regulate it in a way that maintains it. Soss will show some ways we might move beyond limited policies to make the United States a place of greater equality and opportunity for all, but especially for minorities.
Free and delicious soup and bread will be served. Ask your professor if you can receive extra credit for this stimulating talk.

Team Trivia Night!
Friday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Think you have what it takes to beat the English faculty? Prove it! Join Residence Life and the English Department for its 2nd Annual Team Trivia competition in the Kliebahn Center. Along with prizes, we'll also have food and a CASH BAR. (People over 21 can buy themselves up to three beers.) Students, faculty, staff, and alumni are welcome. Carl McCorkle ('11) will return as our Trivia Master. Come one, come all!
Spring Break 2013 in Ireland
Professor Paula Friedman, who teaches Stritch's Irish Literature class, took Stritch students and staff to Ireland for spring break. Students began their travels in Dublin, followed by a trip to Galway and Connemara.

Stritch English hosted a pizza party in February for our English and Writing majors and minors! At it, we talked about the Sigma Tau Delta, the English honors society; Working Titles, the student writing club; and POP, the Power of the Pen reading events. Lucky students walked away not only with cookies but also prizes.

Congratulations December 2012 Graduates!
