The field of accounting offers stimulating and challenging work that is
constantly evolving.
Because accountants
spend a lot of time contributing to the healthy financial underpinning of organizations, they have a unique perspective on how
business work. It’s no surprise that
many highly successful careers in business began with accounting.
The Accounting major is designed to prepare students for rewarding careers in
public and private accounting. Accounting is the
study of how businesses track their income and assets over time, and accountants engage in a wide variety of
activities including preparing financial statements, recording business
transactions, and computing costs and efficiency gains from new
technologies.
Accountants also participate in strategies for mergers and acquisitions, quality
management, developing and using information systems to track financial
performance, tax strategy, and health care benefits management.
