Cooperating Teachers
Mentoring
teacher candidates entering into the profession is a vital role in
effective teacher preparation. Stritch appreciates the time, energy,
and expertise that our cooperating teachers provide.
The
Stritch teacher education programs contain two aspects of field experiences.
All teacher candidates participate in field experiences in conjunction with
their coursework. In addition, all teacher candidates take part in
student teaching, the capstone clinical experience.
Field
experiences vary in length from 25-50 hours. Cooperating teachers who work with
field experience students can expect them to be in the school for a few hours a
week.
Student
teaching experiences are a full time placement with the goal of the teacher
candidates taking over all teaching responsibilities in the classroom under the
guidance of their cooperating teachers. Placements are secured for either a
full semester or one-quarter.
