The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Literacy and Learning Disabilities leads to joint certification as a reading teacher (DPI license 316, K-12) and a learning disabilities teacher (DPI license 42-811, K-8).
If students only want 316 certification, they may individually plan the second half of the program with their adviser.
Standards from the International Reading Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Mission Statement of Stritch and the College of Education and Leadership guide the curriculum and instruction for the department.
The program also involves practica experiences, whereby students apply what they have learned in their classroom, school, district, or the Cardinal Stritch University Reading Center.
