M.A. Special Education (Initial Certification)
Courses in the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Special Education (initial certification) program are offered in the evening in a year-round format and utilize a cohort model. The initial certification portion of the program consists of 42 credits, which includes student teaching. The student teaching may be either on-the-job or through a Stritch placement. Students will complete the coursework and student teaching in approximately 18-24 months. Students interested in earning the optional master's degree complete additional coursework, including a technology-based research statistics course and a research paper, which may be either thesis or action research.
In addition to coursework, students are required to complete 150 hours of field experiences in an elementary, middle, or high school setting during regular school hours. Schools in area districts will be used for field experiences and student teaching placements.
