Admissions Requirements

To qualify for admission to the M.A. in Urban Special Education program, you must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
  • A GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (conditional acceptance may be granted)
  • Passing scores in all three sections of the Core. A passing score within the past 5 years on the ACT, SAT or GRE can be accepted in place of the Praxis I/Core.
  • Passing score on the Praxis II: Middle School Content Knowledge Test (# 5146)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A personal essay, not more than two pages in length, outlining your reasons for seeking teacher certification, life experiences that may have affected this career choice, and the reasons you are interested in becoming an urban special educator. For TFA applicants, in place of this essay, narratives submitted to Teach for America may be submitted.
