Textbook Option Plan
Master of Education (M.E.) in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (Online Format)
The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) was amended to ensure
that students have access to affordable course materials by decreasing
costs to students and enhancing transparency and disclosures with
respect to the selection, purchase, sale, and use of course materials.
Effective July 1, 2010, universities across the country are required to
disclose on their Internet course schedule the International Standard
Book Number (ISBN) and retail price information for required and
recommended college textbooks and supplemental materials. This
information is available at www.stritch.edu/schedules.aspx .
Students can choose to receive textbooks and course materials from
Teachscape before each course begins, or these can be purchased through
other vendors. Students must select either the opt-in plan or the
opt-out plan. Please consider these options carefully, since the plan
cannot be changed once it has been selected.
Opt-In Plan:
This plan allows students to amortize the cost of textbooks over the
life of the program. In this plan, students will pay $75 per course
($150 per term), and new textbooks are sent directly to your home at the
beginning of each term. This ensures that you will have the correct
edition for each course, and since the textbooks are included in your
Stritch materials fee every semester, the cost is covered in your
financial aid package.
Opt-Out Plan:
This plan allows you to purchase textbooks for each course on your
own. Since you will be paying for the textbooks out of pocket, you will
be responsible for making the necessary arrangements to receive extra
financial aid disbursements to cover the cost of your books. You are
responsible for purchasing any textbooks required to successfully
complete your course and paying for them out of pocket. You can choose
to purchase new or used textbooks. In this plan, it is your
responsibility to purchase the books prior to the start of each course,
ensuring you have the correct textbook edition specified for your
course.
