Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Psychology

Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission to this program, students must have:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. All applicants must have completed General Psychology, Personality, Abnormal Psychology, Research Methods, and Statistics, or their equivalents.
  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 point scale) and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in psychology courses.
  • Three letters of recommendation sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions. At least one letter must be from a current or former professor who can attest to the applicant's academic work. The other two letters can be from an employer, or supervisor of paid or volunteer work in a psychology or social service area.
  • A personal essay of two-four typed pages describing your reasons for seeking a graduate degree in clinical psychology. The essay should include details of past academic, employment, and volunteer experiences in psychology, expectations for graduate education, and professional goals.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • A personal interview with a graduate faculty member. The interview is scheduled after the Psychology Department has reviewed all of the other application materials.
  • Applicants educated outside of the U.S. must follow academic admission procedures relating to English ability and credential evaluation described on the International Admissions web page.

Students who do not meet the above requirements should complete undergraduate prerequisite courses and/or meet with the program chair to discuss their options before applying to the program. Upon approval, students can waive/transfer a maximum of three credits for an undergraduate course in History and Systems in Psychology.
