Asuncion Miteria Austria, Ph.D. is professor, chair, and director of clinical training for the Stritch M.A. in Clinical Psychology. She received her B.A. (magna cum laude) from the University of the Philippines, her M.A. from Columbia University, her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Northwestern University, and her postdoctoral residency training from the Neuropsychiatric Institute, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine, University of Illinois at the Medical Center.

A licensed psychologist, she is a fellow of the American Psychological Association. She has served as a board member of the APA’s Board of Educational Affairs, Policy and Planning Board, and chair of the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs. She currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the APA’s Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12), where she serves as member-at-large and chair of the Committee on Diversity. She also serves as the division representative to the APA Council of Representatives, chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee for the Psychology of Women (Division 35), and chair of the Mary Roth Walsh Teaching Award in 2009. She also serves as the finance committee chair for the APA Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minorities (Division 45).

She serves as the lead regional consultant to the American Psychological Association/National Institute of General Medical Science (APA.NIGMS) Project that develops minority biomedical research talent in psychology. She is a member of the Education and Training Awards of the Board of Educational Affairs, and member of the Working Group on Internationalizing the Undergraduate Psychology Curriculum.

Her current interests and research activities include ethnic minority and women’s issues, depression, and pain management, rehabilitation psychology, and consultation. She teaches Multicultural Issues in Clinical Psychology in the graduate program and serves as a thesis advisor and reader.

Cathy Crandell, Ph.D., adjunct faculty in the Stritch M.A. in Clinical Psychology program, received her doctorate from the University of Georgia. A licensed psychologist, she joined the faculty in 2005 and teaches Ethics, Professional Standards and Legal Issues. In addition to teaching at Cardinal Stritch University, she maintains a private practice as a partner in Behavioral Consultants, Inc.

Her interests are on moral development, ethical issues, assessment and mediation. She is active in the Wisconsin Psychological Association, where she is developing a new model of ethics education for psychologists.

Brad Grunert, Ph.D.

Brad K. Grunert, Ph.D., associate professor at Stritch, received his doctorate from Marquette University. He teaches Assessment II, Theories & Techniques of Group Psychotherapy and Counseling, Practicum Seminar courses, and serves as a Practicum I & Practicum II supervisor as well as a thesis advisor and reader. He has been a longtime sponsor of the Stritch graduate program’s annual thesis award.

In addition, he is Associate Professor of Psychology in the Departments of Plastic Surgery and Psychiatric and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His private practice is at Froedtert Hospital/Medical College of Wisconsin. He is internationally known for his work on psychological adjustment to traumatic hand injuries and contributes to publications in the areas of hand injury, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and adjustment to physical injury.

Terry Steele, PhD, professor and chair of the Stritch undergraduate psychology program, received his doctorate from Kansas State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Oklahoma. He teaches Biological Bases of Behavior and serves as thesis reader for the graduate program.

His primary research interest is captive animal behavior in zoos. With the assistance of interns from several universities, he conducts environmental enrichment research on many species and gives public demonstrations at the Menomonee Park Zoo in Oshkosh. He also initiated a training program at that zoo to habituate wolves to be immobilized for medical treatments. In addition, he designs and consults on zoo exhibits.
