English Major: 36 credits

(exclusive of EN 101 and 102)

Additional requirements for Secondary Teachers: EN 207, 225, RLA 345.

Broad Field English/Communication Arts Major: 56 credits total (English: 30-32 credits; Communication Arts: 24-25 credits)

Preparation for Broad Field Major: EN 101, 102, and 150; CA 101, CA 228.

Required English courses: EN 327/328/329, 412, and 402.

Required Writing courses: CA 209, EN 228, CA 228 and CA 311.

Required Communication Arts courses: CA 108, 210, 206 and 317. Recommended CA courses: CA 201 and Practicum/Internship.

Recommended for Secondary Teachers: CA 317.

To complete the necessary number of English credits for the EN/CA major, the student selects one of several options from the courses required of English majors. A student preparing to teach must meet the indicated requirements.

Pre-Law

The Pre-Law sequence with English as a major requires 34 hours in English with specific requirements in History, Communication Arts, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Business and a foreign language.

Non-teaching English Minor: 24 credits

Required courses for Minor: EN 150, 305 or 306; 327, 328 or 329; 330 or 430; 331 or 431; 332 or 432; 333 or 433; 412.

Secondary teaching Minor: 27 credits + RLA 345

Required courses for a Minor: EN 150, 207, 225, 305 or 306; 327, 328 or 329; 333 or 433, 412; two courses in British Literature chosen from EN 330 or 430; 331 or 431; 332 or 432; 340; and RLA 345.

Elementary teaching Minor: 24 credits

Required courses for Minor: EN 150, 207, 208, 225, 303, 305 or 306; 327, 328 or 329; 333 or 433.

Writing Major: 36 credits

Required courses for Major: EN 150, 208, 315, 316, 415, and 225; one British literature course from EN 327, 328, 329; 331, 332, or 340; one American literature course from EN 211, 306, or 213; one literature course from EN 303, 333, or 433; EN 402, 412 and three credits from EN 228, 403 (to be taken for no more than three credits), CA 209, CA 400, Internships (1-3 credits).
