cd2mueller@stritch.eduDr. Carl D. Mueller joined the faculty in July 2008. He earned a B.S. in mathematics and physics and an M.S. in mathematics from the University of Illinois. He completed his Ph.D. in mathematics with a minor in computer science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993.
Sister Barbara Reynolds, SDS, Ph.D.
Professor
(414) 410-4018
breynolds@stritch.edu
http://faculty.stritch.edu/breynolds/
Sister Barbara Reynolds has been on the faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science since 1979. She received her Ph.D. in mathematics from Saint Louis University shortly before coming to Stritch. In her doctoral thesis, “Taxicab Geometry: An Example of Minkowski Space,” she explored the properties of conic sections under the taxicab metric. She is an active member of the Clavius Group, an international group of research mathematicians, regularly participating in their annual summer research meetings.
Her scholarship has focused primarily on the scholarship of teaching. Her focus has been on using a hands-on, activity-based approach, cooperative learning, and mathematical software to teach calculus, discrete mathematics, geometry, data analysis and statistics, and other courses. She has co-authored three textbooks that use these methods: "Precalculus Concepts & Computers," "Workshop Calculus: Guided Explorations with Review (Graphing Calculator Version)," and "College Geometry Using The Geometer’s Sketchpad." Each of these textbooks was co-authored with one or more colleagues who are also experts in teaching undergraduate mathematics in a cooperative learning environment using technology.
She has coauthored and co-edited three additional books on cooperative learning pedagogy, which have been published by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). In 2008, Sister Barbara was recognized by the students of Cardinal Stritch University as Educator of the Year.
