Business Leaders with a Conscience Speakers Series

What does it mean to be a business leader with a conscience?

How can Cardinal Stritch graduates be successful in meeting the challenge of balancing people, planet and profit? Attendees at the Business Leaders with a Conscience Speakers Series learn from leaders in the field who have discovered responsible ways to navigate complex business environments and who want to employ people who know how to collaborate and make decisions that are innovative and ethical.

There is no cost to attend and all events are open to the public. For additional information, contact Mark Gesner at mlgesner@stritch.edu. For more information about the creation and vision of the Business Leaders with a Conscience Speakers Series click here.

King

Shortly after earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Stritch in 1988, Brian J. King began his lodging career at the Glendale Residence Inn by Marriott, a few blocks from campus. King now serves as global brand officer for Marriott Endorsed Brands at Marriott International where he is responsible for brand positioning, long-range strategy, marketing communications and product development, and overall “making Marriott the most sought after hotel brand in the world.”  King believes strongly in giving others opportunities to succeed. He takes the time to mentor young managers and executives, often reminding his teams that there’s the balance sheet with credits and debits AND a payroll sheet with Suzie’s and Sam’s. Both are equally important.

Silvia N. Perez-Rathell serves as the National Senior Director of Corporate and Federal Relations at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). Founded in 1929, LULAC is the oldest, largest and most widely respected Hispanic civil rights organization in the US.  Perez-Rathell’s commitment to Hispanic/Latino communities is deeply embedded in her life experiences.  A native of Mexico, she grew up in a very small town in the state of Guanajuato, with no running water or electricity. She came to the United States when she was 14 years old and quickly assimilated into a very different culture.

Since her arrival, Perez-Rathell has become a US citizen, and regularly exercises her right to vote, a privilege she takes very seriously.  One of her greatest accomplishments is to be the first person in her family to have graduated from high school, college and then graduate school . . . the most recent degree being a Masters in Management from Stritch.
