EDUC 584 Writing the Professional Development Plan
1 graduate credit
This course is designed to support teachers who would like to write a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to renew their Wisconsin Professional Educator License. The course is devoted to understanding the various components of PI 34, the educational standards in the state of Wisconsin, and how to write a PDP plan. In this course, the initial educator/teacher will write a PDP as determined by PI 34 that can be submitted to the PDP team. In addition, the instructor will be the Institution of Higher Education representative on the teacher’s team, if desired. This course can be brought to your school district and blended to meet your school’s needs.

ED 690 Understanding, Supporting & Facilitating the Spirit of PI 34
2-3 graduate credits
This course is devoted to understanding the components of PI 34, the various educational standards in the state, the process of developing a Professional Development Plan (PDP), and how to support others in the process. You will write a sample plan and develop skills to support others in developing, implementing and assessing their plans. After successful completion of this course and additional DPI training, you will be qualified to apply to serve as an Institution of Higher Education (IHE) representative for Cardinal Stritch University if you have already earned a master's degree.

DPI PDP Reviewer Training
Completing this training will qualify individuals who are licensed teachers, administrators, pupil service personnel, and IHE (Institutes of higher education) representatives to serve as team members to review initial and professional educator PDP's and to be listed in the DPI database as a trained DPI reviewer.

Earn ten post-baccalaureate credits taking coursework and workshops that result in a Mentoring Certificate. The program is designed for teachers and administrators interested in supporting beginning teachers through mentoring. The College of Education and Leadership of Cardinal Stritch University will award this certificate.
Statistics show that approximately one half of beginning teachers nationwide leave the profession within the first five years as many new teachers feel increasingly overwhelmed and under prepared. The classroom teacher is widely considered the most important factor in student achievement. So, too, the mentor teacher is the most essential feature of any high quality induction program. A mentor's knowledge and skill are especially critical in programs that seek to accelerate the development of a novice teacher's classroom practice and to create a teaching force with the capacity to meet the needs of all students in an increasingly diverse society.
Therefore, according to Wisconsin's PI 34, school districts must train mentors to provide support and assistance to initial educators. To meet the demands of the spirit of the law, a mentoring certificate will ensure that mentors will gain a comprehensive and deep understanding of the knowledge and skills necessary to best serve beginning teachers. Moreover, earning a mentoring certificate will prepare those educators to become teacher leaders, thus strengthening the overall quality of education for all students in their districts.
You are eligible to participate in the Mentoring Certificate Program if you are a K-12 educator with at least three years of teaching experience and want to mentor new teachers.
