Using your student ID and barcode

Your student ID acts as your library card and is your passport to using the library. With it, you may:
- Borrow items from the Cardinal Stritch University Library
- Request and borrow items from SWITCH libraries
- Access Cardinal Stritch University electronic resources remotely
- Access your library account
- Make photocopies and microfiche copies
- Copy credits are placed on the card
- Copies cost 10 cents a piece and may be purchased at the Circulation Desk
About your PIN (Personal Identification Number)
Logging in to My library account & subscription resources
Patrons access their TOPCAT library account by entering the barcode number found on the front of their CSU ID as well as a Personal Identification Number, or "PIN". This is to help insure that account information is private and secure.
*****NOTE: You are NOT automatically assigned a PIN number, you will create one for yourself the first time that you login.*****
Before you create a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- A PIN must be at least 4 characters long
- A PIN can contain letters and numbers
- The PIN is case sensitive
- Special characters (such as $, !, *) are NOT allowed
- You cannot repeat a character 3 or more times (i.e. "aaa", "ababa", "mexxx")
Creating a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Go to My Library Account
- Enter the barcode number found on the front of your CSU ID
- Leave the PIN number blank and click the SUBMIT button
- You'll be prompted to create a new PIN number
What if I forgot my PIN?
Patrons with a VALID EMAIL ADDRESS in their library account may click on the "Forgot Your PIN?" button to request a new PIN online from TOPCAT. You will receive an email to help you create a new PIN. Library staff do not have access to your PIN number.
