Pets of all shapes visit Stritch for a blessing

posted Oct. 3, 2011

In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, Cardinal Stritch University held its 10th annual Blessing of the Animals in Heritage Park on Oct. 2.

The colorful and festive event celebrating St. Francis of Assisi’s love of all creatures was attended by dozens of people with their companion pets of all shapes and sizes.

Dr. James Loftus, Stritch president, welcomed everyone to the ceremony and Father Jim Gannon, campus priest, officiated.

Father Jim is a member of the Order of Friars Minor, which Francis founded in 1209. Known as the patron saint of animals, Francis championed respect for all of creation. That value is one of several that are integral to Stritch, which is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi.
