Stritch Gallery Store to open Jan. 18; new sculptures installed outside

posted Jan. 14, 2011

Stritch’s Northwestern Mutual Art Gallery in the Joan Steele Stein Center for Communication Studies/Fine Arts has expanded to include a Gallery Store, adjacent to the gallery.

Featuring an array of beautiful artworks and wearables made by Stritch Art majors and faculty, the store will have its grand opening from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Jan. 18, the first day of classes for the spring semester. The event will include hot cider and freshly baked cookies.

Regular store hours will be the same as the gallery hours, from noon-4 p.m., Sunday through Friday. It will also be open for the Jan. 21 Gallery Night Emerging Artists exhibit from 5-8 p.m., as well by appointment.

In addition to the Gallery Store, the Joan Steele Stein Center is now home to two large outdoor sculptures by Bilhenry Walker and Steve Fischer, installed in December on the northeast and northwest corners of the building.

Stritch now has the largest outdoor sculpture garden in the area, exclusively featuring local sculptors. Grants are being sought to maintain and enhance the sculpture garden.
