posted July 8, 2011
Cardinal Stritch University Wolves Athletics is pleased to announce that eight of the Wolves athletic teams have been named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Athletic Teams while one has been named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Scholar Athletic Team.
“This is a tremendous testament to the focus of our student-athletes and their ability to budget their time to be successful in the classroom as well as in the field of competition,” Director of Athletics Pat Clemens said. “I’m very proud of our student-athletes and our coaching staffs for understanding that academics is as much a priority to us as putting together winning teams. This effort is truly something to celebrate and to be proud of.”
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Athletic Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible. The same requirements are held true for the AVCA.
Pacing the way for the Wolves was the women’s cross country team, which posted a team GPA of 3.55. Following them was women’s basketball at 3.42, then men’s volleyball at 3.38. The next three teams were men’s cross country at 3.30, softball at 3.25 and women’s volleyball at 3.21. The final three teams on the list were women’s soccer at 3.17, men’s soccer at 3.10 and men’s basketball at 3.06.
