Stritch’s winter commencement ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the U.S. Cellular Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave., Milwaukee.

The ceremony will bring together undergraduate and graduate students from each of the University’s four Colleges.

Stritch is honored to welcome Dr. Mehmood Khan, executive vice president and chief scientific officer of global research and development for PepsiCo, as commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient.

Over the last five years, Khan has led PepsiCo’s investment in research and development; recruited expert clinical scientists, global health leaders, and medical professionals; and directed new business development.

Prior to joining PepsiCo, Khan served as president for Takeda Global Research and Development Center. He has also worked as a consultant, endocrinologist, and faculty member at the Mayo Clinic and the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn.

Khan serves on many national and state committees, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the State of Illinois Innovation Council, and the Board of the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. He earned his medical degree from the University of Liverpool Medical School, England, and completed a fellowship in clinical endocrinology and nutrition and the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis’ Department of Medicine and Food Science and Nutrition.

Khan spoke at the May commencement ceremony in Minnesota and recently visited with students there.

The day’s events will begin with a special Baccalaureate Mass for graduating students. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel on the main campus. Family, friends, and members of the Stritch community are invited to attend.

Immediately following Mass, graduates will be invited to a celebratory brunch. Additional information will be provided to graduates soon.

Beginning in 2014, the University will focus its attention and resources on a single commencement ceremony each year, which takes place in mid May.

This approach will allow all graduating students for the entire academic year to share in a single celebration, which typically includes a Baccalaureate Mass, a commencement brunch, and the commencement ceremony itself.

Stritch will continue to confer degrees three times per year, in May, August and December, and all graduates are encouraged to participate in the May commencement activities to celebrate their accomplishments with their fellow graduates, faculty, staff, and loved ones.

Graduating students are reminded to pay close attention to deadlines and instructions as Dec. 14 quickly approaches.
