The
application process for the October 2014 faculty/staff pilgrimage will begin this
August, while the application process for students will start in September. Those
selected to take part will be notified in October. Those with questions or
interest in applying are encouraged to contact Father Jim Gannon at jggannon@stritch.edu or (414) 410-4151.
In
addition to these regular faculty/staff and student pilgrimages, the 75th
Anniversary pilgrimage that took place in 2012 will be offered again in
May/June 2014 to all members of the University community, with a special focus
on Stritch alumni.
This
pilgrimage to Italy and Germany, led by Father Jim Gannon, Sister Joanne
Schatzlein, OSF, and Sister Marcia Lunz, OSF, will explore the foundations of
the Catholic Church in Rome, the Franciscan tradition in Assisi and the
birthplace of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi in Bavaria.
The
itinerary will be as follows:
May 23:
Depart USA
May 24:
Arrival in Rome; orientation; Mass at SS. Cosmos and Damien
May 25:
Guided tour through ancient Rome; visit to St. Peter’s Basilica
May 26:
Rome: St. John Lateran; San Francesco a Ripa in Trestavere
May 27:
The Rieti Valley: Coach to Greccio; on to Assisi
May 28:
Celebrate Foundation Day of the Sisters at Chiesa Nuova; visit Santa Maria
Maggiore; San Rufino; Basilica of St. Clare
May 29:
Eucharist at the Porziuncola; visit San Damiano; La Maddalena
May 30:
Eucharist at the Tomb of St. Francis; visit at the Basilica of St. Francis;
free afternoon
May 31:
The Tuscan Valley; coach to La Verna; on to the Florence airport for a flight
to Munich and coach to Augsburg
June 1:
Eucharist in Ettenbeuren at the home parish of the OSF foundresses; lunch at
Ursberg; begin exploration of Augsburg
June 2:
Continue exploration of Augsburg; supper with former Bavarian pilgrims to the
USA
June 3:
Departure from Munich to USA
