Several staff members recently participated in a community service project benefiting
the St. Ben's Community Meal program. The service activity was part of Staff Development Day, hosted by the Staff Development Committee (SDC).
The day's theme was "Discover Your Mission," and as such, SDC felt it was important to offer a service activity to staff members for personal development and fulfillment.
Volunteers assembled and delivered
approximately 55 hygiene bags and 275 sandwiches to St. Ben's. The organization recently
sent a note expressing their thanks to the Stritch community.
“The University has a longstanding history of
volunteering at St. Ben’s throughout the school year, but in the summertime
students and classes aren’t as readily available to donate their time to serve
meals," explained SDC member Holly Patoka. "The committee felt this project would help supplement our academic year
SDC co-chairs Yanelis Rodriguez and Amber Sanders said that a post-event survey showed that the service component was a staff favorite.
"The session was so full that we actually had to move people around," said Rodriguez, adding that staff were also very generous in donating supplies and financial support.
Other Staff Development Day events included professional development break-out sessions and the announcement of the 2013-14 Staff Recognition Awards.
Thanks to all of our wonderful staff and Staff Development Committee members!
