National Champion Wolves to take on Golden Gophers

The N.A.I.A. Division II National Champion Wolves men’s basketball team will play the University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers in a pre-season game on Friday, Nov. 1. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

The opportunity to face off against the Big Ten team is the latest in a year of highlights for the Wolves.

Last November, the team traveled to South Bend, Ind. to take on the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the first time in an exhibition game. A group of Wolves fans, including students, alumni, and President Dr. James Loftus, made the trip to cheer on the team.

In March, the Wolves made history again when they beat the No. 1-ranked William Penn University Statesmen in the N.A.I.A. Division II finals. The victory earned the team its first national championship, and its success was celebrated at Stritch , in local media , and by Milwaukee’s professional sports teams. Head Coach Drew Diener was also honored as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Coach of the Year.

The Nov. 1 game against the Golden Gophers will mark the Wolves’ second game back on the court since winning the championship. The Alumni Association will sponsor an alumni reception and pep rally before the game.
