Kathleen A. Rinehart, J.D. named 9th president of Cardinal Stritch University

January 10, 2018

The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi are pleased to announce the appointment of Kathleen A. Rinehart, J.D., as the ninth president of Cardinal Stritch University. Rinehart has served as the Interim President since August 2017. Under her leadership in that short time, she has engaged the University in activities and initiatives resulting in a momentum that positions the institution to assume a long-term leadership role in higher education throughout the greater Milwaukee community, the state and beyond.

Sister Diana De Bruin, director of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, stated, “Our sisters established Cardinal Stritch University 80 years ago, and Kathleen demonstrates a commitment to deepening the Franciscan values that are at the core of our founders’ vision and goals for the University by engaging faculty and staff in the fostering of excellence in higher education.”

Prior to her arrival at Stritch, Rinehart served as General Counsel and Secretary of the Corporation for Saint Xavier University in Chicago where she was responsible for overseeing the University’s legal affairs, risk management services and institutional compliance obligations. In addition to her work at Saint Xavier, she has provided legal representation for and/or consultation with numerous colleges and universities in Wisconsin, Illinois and across the country for more than 20 years, working closely with institutional leadership on strategic initiatives, financial health and sustainability, and the professional development of faculty and staff.

"I am deeply honored to serve Stritch at this time in its history," said Rinehart. "Mindful of the challenges and opportunities facing higher education today, I look forward to working with all of my colleagues in the Stritch Community to build on the rich legacy of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and to lead the University into a new era of growth and leadership in the State and across the region."

With Rinehart's formal appointment, the University is terminating the current presidential search and focusing its efforts anew on the growth of its academic programs and the implementation of strong, distinctive initiatives that reflect the Franciscan core values of the University. Stritch is committed to helping students find their mission in life, and to preparing them to succeed and lead in the 21st century, both personally and professionally.
