The Stritch community celebrated the annual Blessing of the Animals on Oct. 5.
Despite the dreary conditions and persistent threat of rain, students, alumni, faculty, staff and visitors brought their furry friends to the ceremony in Heritage Park. Father Jim Gannon, OFM, associate director of university ministry, offered a brief reflection and then blessed each animal individually. Known as the patron saint of animals, St. Francis championed respect for all living creatures. The blessing took place in conjunction with Franciscan Mission Week, which provided opportunities for the Stritch community to come together to celebrate its Franciscan heritage, spirituality, and values.
