Service Description

Cardinal Stritch University Office of Information Services, Infrastructure team has the responsibility for providing and maintaining network storage and other storage resources directly to users and to server resources we maintain on the network. This includes provisioning new storage or allocating that storage for a variety of approved uses to users.

How to Use this Service

  1. You can browse to the file sharing resources on the network using Windows Explorer. Primarily, files can be stored on \\fileshare01 or \\nas2, though there are smaller departmental shares that each department is aware of. You can use most File > Open and File > Save As… dialogs to access these resources by typing in the path to the server and browsing to the location of the file you wish to open or save
  2. If you need additional network storage on an existing file share, or if you will undertake a new activity on an existing file share that you anticipate will consume a large amount of network storage, contact the service owner with the details of your request. Provide the name and path of the existing share you intend to use. Also include the types of files you will be storing on the server, the expected growth rate, how long you intend to store these files in that location and how you intend to remove old and outdated content.
  3. If you need a new file share created, contact the service owner with your request to determine the best way to handle your request. Please include a proposed name for your new file share, a list of the persons that should have access, the types of files you will be storing on the server, the expected growth rate, how long you intend to store these files in that location and how you intend to remove old and outdated content.
  4. If you maintain a server or service that requires additional storage, contact the service owner with the details of your request including the types of data that is stored, the expected growth rate, how long you intend to store these files and your method for removing old and outdated content. A plan will be made for adding additional storage that is specific to your server or service and use case.
