NoodleBib is a multi-faceted tool but at its core it is an online note-taking, documentation, and citation program. NoodleBib gives you the opportunity to organize and store your sources.
How to Use this Service
How do I get to NoodleBib?
Start at the library's homepage and click on citation guides/research guides and then on NoodleBib. Once you click on the link from the library's homepage, you will need to create your own account in NoodleBib. An account is created so that you can save your information and access your account from anywhere. The ID is NOT case sensitive but the password is case sensitive. This username and password have no connection to your Stritch domain account.
Once you sign into NoodleBib you will be taken to the "my projects" tab. If this is your first time logging in you will not have any projects listed here. If you have logged in previously and created projects, the list will show up on this screen. For each separate project you are working on you are going to click on "create a new project" on the right hand side of the screen. You can create as many projects as you like so don't feel shy about creating new projects and you can delete or archive projects if your "my projects" tab gets too crowded.
Once you have clicked "create a new project" you are going to choose your citation style. NoodleBib can create citations in MLA (7th edition), APA (6th edition), and Chicago/Turabian (16th edition). You do not have the ability to change any citation styles to an older edition. Once you have chosen your citation style give your project and title and click "create project".
Once your project is created you are automatically taken to the "dashboard" tab. The dashboard tab is similar to a homepage for each separate project, it provides an overview for your project. Here you can enter a thesis statement and research question and enter a to-do list to keep track of assignments and due dates.
From the dashboard you can move to the three other functions of NoodleBib. The next function is the bibliography tab through which you can create and organize your citations. So, for each separate source, you are going to create a citation. In order to do that, choose the type of source and click Create Citation. Follow the steps through and enter as much information as you have in order to create a correct citation. You can also print, export, and email your reference page to yourself or someone else.
The notecards feature in NoodleBib is designed to help you extract, organize and synthesize information you find during the research process. They document what you already know, help you explain what you are reading so that you will understand it more thoroughly, and keep a record of important ideas you unearth.
You can create notecards from the bibliography or the notecard section. In the bibliography section you can hit Create Citation under notecard section. In the notecard section, hit create new notecard. Enter all of the information for your notecard and save it. Note that the tabletop extends beyond what you see so that you can create as many notecards as you would like. You can move around and the corner box is a bird's eye view of the notecard box.
You can organize your notecards into 'piles.' Piles are intended for 'like' notecards. To create a new pile hit the Ctrl key and then click on at least two notecards you would like to Add to Pile. Then hit add to pile.
You can add tags to notecards to allow for further organization. You can also add colors to your notecards. There are six colors and they have no pre-defined meaning. Visual cues may be added to your notecards as reminders of certain things. The visual cues include: needs further research, need help, incomplete, original thinking, important, and used in paper.
