Public Art Symposium

The Art department of Cardinal Stritch University will present a public art symposium from 6-9 p.m. July 16 in the Nancy Kendall Theater.
The event features keynote speaker Jack Becker, founder and executive director of Forecast Public Art; and Karin Wolf, arts program administrator for the city of Madison.
Jack Becker: "Public Art in the Age of Obama" -- 6-7 p.m.
What does sustainable mean in the context of public art today? Is it artists saving the environment; maintaining collections of art exposed to the elements; retaining careers in the field; eco-activism; community building; preserving the “art” in public art; restoring civic life; or defining new forms of creative expression? It’s all of the above.
Karin Wolf: "What the Brise Soleil, the Borg Ward, and Mike Brenner Have in Common: Milwaukee's Unique Public Art Assets From an Outsider’s Perspective." -- 7-7:30 p.m.
This 20-minute presentation is intended to inspire Milwaukeeans to celebrate the resources they have and to envision the possibilities of their brightest public art future. Take a few minutes to see Milwaukee from the?perspective of Madison's art program administrator.
“Where Do We Go From Here?” Brainstorming Reception -- 7:30 – 9 p.m.
After the presentations, there will be a reception to encourage positive discussions, networking and brainstorming while participants enjoy wine and light refreshments. Smart Board technology will be available to capture people's ideas and recommendations for the future of public art in Milwaukee.

Northwestern Mutual Art Gallery
The opening reception will take place in conjunction with Milwaukee's Gallery Night. Visitors will enjoy food, wine, and live music performed by a Stritch ensemble.
B.F.A. graduates Camille Demarinis and Daniel Listwan address an array of dichotomies through their paintings, drawings, sculpture and installation pieces. The artists create a fascinating world of colorful organic forms, vibrant emergences, and macroscopic organisms.
Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. Sunday through Friday.
