ENGAGE Programs

Overview

Students are eased into university life through the ENGAGE programs.

ENGAGE is a series of interactive programs targeted at freshman students designed to assist in their successful transition to university life.

These programs are offered through Student Development during the first part of the fall semester, because substantial evidence suggests that students make a decision to stay or leave an institution within the first six weeks of college. Those students who participate in programming during the first semester are more likely to feel involved throughout their college experience.

Ongoing first semester programs are intentionally designed to provide students the interaction with peers necessary for group bonding and affiliation. Programs in the first college semester frequently improve retention rates, sense of belonging in the campus community, and out-of-class contact with others (Barefoot, 2000).
