Mission Fuel applies a business accelerator model to assist nonprofit leadership teams with developing and implementing strategies to diversify revenue streams, become more entrepreneurial, and ultimately realize a more stable and self-sustainable future. Through the project, Mission Fuel will support the skill development of nonprofit leaders to address a variety of complex challenges in an economically sustainable and holistic manner.

*Priority for scholarships will be given to leaders from organizations focused on education, employment, financial literacy, healthcare, housing, or transportation and who are engaged in the Transform Milwaukee initiative (see for more information). 


Applications are welcomed from all nonprofit leaders. For the first program cohort, applications are particularly encouraged from those located in the Transform Milwaukee area (see for more information). 

Please note that a limited number of full and partial scholarships are available for those in need of financial support. Scholarship priority will be given to senior executives of organizations that have been awarded funding from the State of Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, Workforce Development, and/or Health Services, and/or WHEDA, as a contractor or subcontractor, within the last six years and whose programs are related to education, employment, financial literacy, healthcare, housing, or transportation. Participants are encouraged to seek organizational support to supplement their own personal investment in the program.

Mission Fuel is an intensive program utilizing the best practices of business accelerator models. The goal is to provide exceptional training and professional development for nonprofit leaders so that they in turn can effectively sustain and grow the organizations they lead. Components of the program include the following:

  • Three (3) 6-week experiential learning courses about social entrepreneurism, innovation, business development and design. The course takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm on the Cardinal Stritch University main campus in Milwaukee, WI. There is also one hour of online instruction each week with additional applied learning assignments each week. The coursework begins on January 24 and ends on June 6, with two breaks on March 7 and April 25.
  • Technical and consulting support is provided as needed for each participating organization. It’s expected that each nonprofit will have 2-3 organizational leaders participating.
  • Each participant receives individual mentoring from an experienced entrepreneur or business leader, and leadership coaching from a master coach.
  • Adult learning seminars will be offered throughout the program to complement the holistic accelerator experience.

Admittance to the program is based on the completion of this application and an interview with the Mission Fuel Program Director.

There is a rolling admission to the program, with initial decisions being made by November 15, 2017.
