SEWNTP: Transforming Education: One New Teacher at a Time
The Southeastern Wisconsin New Teacher Project is a program supporting mentors and the new teachers with whom they work. Cardinal Stritch University is in partnership with the New Teacher Center at University of California, Santa Cruz/New Teacher Center-Wisconsin. Cardinal Stritch University and area school districts in southeastern Wisconsin have joined together as a consortium to meet districts' mentoring and new teacher induction needs.
The consortium provides its members with ongoing training and support to meet PI 34 requirements and collaboration to share ideas, resources and expenses.
The SEWNTP Consortium works closely with the Wisconsin New Teacher Project. The NTC-WI is affiliated with the New Teacher Center at University of California, Santa Cruz and has adapted much of the California training so that it strongly reflects the Wisconsin Teacher Standards and supports districts as they meet the requirements of PI 34.
As a SEWNTP consortium member, you will have access to:
- Research-based induction program models
- Best practices in mentoring and teaching
- Initial educator standards-based support seminars
- Interdistrict PDP Reviewer Team Database & PI 34 guidance
- Customized district consultation
- Inter-district networking
- Mentor trainings and mentoring certificate program (These are the only opportunities open to non-consortium members.)
2008-2009 SEWNTP Consortium Calendar

Southeastern Wisconsin New Teacher Project Vision Statement: Students' needs are met by effective and confident teachers who grow professionally through collaboration.
Southeastern Wisconsin New Teacher Project Mission Statement: Given that research and practice indicate that good teaching is central to student learning, the Southeastern Wisconsin New Teacher Project (SEWNTP) will facilitate systemic, ongoing training and support to build improved induction programs.
Making the CaseThe New Teacher Center is the nation’s premier resource for educational policymakers and practitioners interested in high-quality induction and mentoring programs for new teachers.
The purpose of the set of materials below is to define what constitutes high-quality induction and demonstrate how it can enhance teacher retention, strengthen student achievement, develop teacher leadership, and save schools and districts money.
We hope that these materials can help you to convince policymakers and school leaders that high-quality induction programs are an efficient and effective use of resources, and make the case for public policies that strengthen the quality of induction programs, maximizing their beneficial impact on educators and the students they teach.
