Service & Spirituality Groups

ServiceGroups1At Stritch, students can become involved in a number of organizations that focus on being of service and/or fostering spiritual growth. For more information, call the Dean of Students Office at (414) 410-4184. The groups are as follows:

Christian Student Ecumenical Leadership -- Students of various denominations gather to engage in campus ministry that is inclusive and empowering for prayer and community building.

Darfur Initiative -- is intended to raise awareness of the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Students have participated in sleep-outs, raised money for the Save the Children Foundation, and conducted candlelight vigils. View the Darfur Initiative student site by clicking here.

Faith-to-Faith Mentoring involves faculty, staff and students in one-on-one faith-sharing discussions; exploring each individual's unique gifts, abilities and potential; and guiding one another in understanding and living a purposeful life. For more information, e-mail ovd@stritch.edu.

Inner View Spirituality Groups -- These groups provide students, faculty and staff with opportunities to gather with their peers in book groups, movie groups, majors, special interests, etc., to reflect on their own purpose and faith. For more information, e-mail ovd@stritch.edu.

Habitat For Humanity -- Habitat For Humanity is another alternative spring break experience. Students often head south with hammers in their hands to build houses with people who cannot afford them but can work to earn them. The students do fundraising for this trip and they form a community with reflections and sharing as they grow personally and spiritually. In 2006, students went to Mississippi to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

International Service Trips -- Provides, through the office of International Programs, affordable group travel opportunities for students who want to participate in community service. For more information, contact Laine Philippa at lmphilippa@stritch.edu.

Peer Educators -- Peer Educators provide programming to the University campus as well as the larger community on issues related to health, wellness, sexuality, relationships, substance abuse prevention and various other topics. Peer Educators serve as resources for other students and, as necessary, refer them for professional support. Members are selected each year and advised by the director of Health Services.
