John Pfaffl started the Stritch cross country program in 1994.

 

Pfaffl was a two-sport prep athlete at Milwaukee Pius XI High School, participating in football and basketball. After high school, he started in the backfield at Lawrence University before eventually transferring to UW-Milwaukee where he received a bachelor of science degree in health science in 1998. He is currently working on his master’s degree in sports administration.

 

In addition to his cross country coaching duties at Stritch, he assists with both the men’s and women’s basketball programs and is also the sports information director for the department.  He also teaches physical fitness classes and conducts fitness room orientations for students, faculty and staff.

 

In October of 2002, he was named "Assistant Coach of the Year" by Coach and Athletic Director Magazine. He has also been recognized by the Amateur Athletic Union for his tireless promotion of girls sports in the state of Wisconsin. 

 

Pfaffl and his wife, Janice, have two daughters, Sofia and Karli, and reside in Fox Point.
