Five Gain All-Conference Distinction
Wolves’ men soccer represented well on conference list

Nov. 20, 2008

Milwaukee, Wis. – The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) has released its 2008 Men’s Soccer All-Conference awards and the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves men’s soccer team has found themselves well represented.  All totaled, the Wolves had five members voted to the list with two of them being named first team and three others given honorable mention.

This year, Stritch was led offensively by the collective efforts of Ben Allen (Whaley, England) and Jamie Robertson (Langho, England) so it makes sense that both would be named first team All-Conference together.  The two forwards led the team with 21 points each.  Robertson paced the way in with 10 goals and one assist on the season while Allen was right behind him with nine goals and three assists.

"Both Jamie and Ben were a threat to score at any given time this season," head coach Jeff Bohacek said.  "Jamie is a hard nosed player that always works hard to push the ball up the field.  That style of play compliments Ben's ability to be a target player and attack with his size."

The Wolves had three more players that were on this year’s award list as David Doggett (Cambridge, England), Andy Collins (Burnley, England), and Paul Dugdale (Burnley, England) all were named honorable mention.  For Doggett, the Wolves’ captain, this award caps off a strong career at Stritch.  The Cambridge native was named to the conference list for the third time in his four-year career, having been named first team his freshman season and honorable mention his sophomore season as well.  Doggett also ends his career having garnered NAIA All-American status in his freshman season at Stritch.

"David is one of those guys that we'll certainly miss because he was a great captain for us," Bohacek said.  "He played at another level in big games throughout his career, possessed a load of skill and was so creative with the ball."

Rounding out the list, Collins and Dugdale were both named honorable mention for the first times in their careers.  The two juniors were anchors in the middle of the Wolves’ line up for much of 2008.  Both players were influential in the defensive zones and even showed some offensive flashes themselves throughout the season.  Collins registered two goals and three assists during the season as Dugdale added three goals and two assists.

"Paul was another captain for us that was solid defensively because he has great field vision, keeps the ball in his possession, and plays with an attacking-style that would make opponent's forwards turn into defenders," Bohacek noted.  "When guys like Paul would make a stop and get the ball up to midfield, that's where Andy would really become dangerous.  He became the distributor, won 50/50 balls, and took control of the offense."

The Wolves ended the 2008 season at 8-7-2 overall.  The program also finished at 6-2-1 in the CCAC, good for second place.
