The Wolves bats weren’t able to pull through in the second game, as they fell to Central Methodist, 2-1.
It was a rocky start for the Wolves in game one, as Harris-Stowe loaded the bases with no outs. However Stritch gave up four runs in the bottom half of the inning and although they were able to put together a comeback in the fourth, tying the score 4-4, as Stephanie Douglas (Muskego, Wis.) and Michelle Stelloh (West Allis, Wis.) scored, the tie was quickly broken. The speed and power of the Tigers proved too much for the Wolves, who fell 9-4 and 10-1. Olivet recorded three homeruns and 11 stolen bases in the matchup.
Anna Flock (Norwalk, Wis.) was the losing pitcher in game one, after giving up eight hits and eight runs. The Tigers pulled away from Stritch with a five run sixth inning. The Wolves scored their first run in the fifth as Stephanie Douglas (Muskego, Wis.) scored on a line drive hit by Liz Neitzel (Lomira, Wis.). The scoring ended there for the Wolves, as Stritch only recorded one hit the entire game as Schroeder singled to left in the fourth.

Stramowski Strikes Out Twelve in Wolves First Win Stritch splits with Trinity Christian to break losing streakApr. 9, 2009
Milwaukee, Wis. - After a difficult beginning to the season, the Cardinal Stritch University softball team has finally broke out of a 15 game losing streak. The Wolves found a way to win in the second game of a double header against Trinity Christian College on Thursday. Two strong pitching performances gave the fans something to cheer about. Stritch split with the Trolls, dropping the first game 2-1 before taking the second 3-2.
April Mysliewic (Antioch, Ill.) was the losing pitcher for the Wolves in game one. The sophomore pitched an excellent game, allowing zero earned runs, only three hits, and striking out eight. Liz Neitzel (Lomira, Wis.) knocked in the Wolves lone run in the game, bringing in Brooke Jancik (Batavia, Ill.) with a double in the seventh. The run was not enough however, as the Wolves had given up two unearned runs in the sixth.
Stritch hitting did improve in game one, as the team earned nine hits, which is the most they have registered in a single game this season.
Carrying the success at the plate into the second game, the Wolves scored in the first inning of game two. Neitzel singled to lead off the game and moved to second on a passed ball. The freshman was moved to third on a grounder by Kariann Haluska (Stevens Point, Wis.) before finally scoring on a double by Mysliewic.
The Wolves scored again in the third as Mysliewic was brought in on a single by Jodi Kruszka (Oak Creek, Wis.). In the fourth, Megan Weber (Salem, Wis.) was hit by a pitch and then brought in on a line drive triple to the left center gap by Katie Giuffre (Sussex, Wis.).
Stritch gave up two unearned runs in the fifth, but were able to hold on for the win. Giuffre was a huge asset in the outfield for the Wolves, as the right fielder made multiple plays to stop runs. A quick jump on a liner headed for the gap stopped a third run from scoring in the fifth to tie the game as Giuffre doubled off the Trinity Christian’s baserunner.
Val Stramowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) earned the first win of the season. The senior registered 12 strike outs in seven innings of work. She gave up zero earned runs and only five hits and one walk.
Stritch recorded six hits by six different batters in the matchup. Finally breaking out of the losing streak was a big relief for the team, who will look to build on this win. After the game, Graduate Assistant Coach, Nicki Rice said only this about her team and the win, “They deserved it.”
The split brings the Wolves to 1-15 overall and 1-5 in conference. Trinity Christian moves to 4-29 overall and 1-7 in the CCAC.

The Wolves went down 2-0 against Missouri Valley before scoring in the third inning. Laura Stramowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) tripled down the right field line and was brought in on a deep fly ball by Katie Giuffre (Sussex, Wis.). However, that would be the only run for the Wolves, as they could not capitalize late in the game on a leadoff single by Val Stramowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) in the fifth or a one out single by Mandi Schroeder (Merrill, Wis.) in the seventh.

Tucson, Ariz. – The Cardinal Stritch University softball team fell to Minot State University and Mayville State University on the third day of the Tucson Invitational. Mysliewic then singled to left before Jodi Kruszka (Oak Creek, Wis.) doubled on a shot to left center, putting runners at second and third. Anna Flock (Norwalk, Wis.) hit a hard grounder down the third base line, but a quick grab by Minot State’s third baseman left Mysliewic dead at the plate. Mandi Schroeder (Merrill, Wis.) singled to center to bring in Kruszka, but one run was not enough for the Wolves, as they came up short, dropping their fifth game 6-5.
Jancik led the Wolves at the plate, going 2-3 with one walk, one RBI, and one run scored.
Mysliewic was the losing pitcher for the Wolves. The sophomore gave up nine hits and six runs in seven innings of work and falls to 0-3 for the season. Deanna Mitchell earned the win for the Beavers.

Wolves Drop Two in Tucson
Stritch opens season with losses to Missouri Valley and MayvilleMar. 15, 2009
Tucson, Ariz. – The Cardinal Stritch University softball team opened up their season on Sunday, taking on Missouri Valley College and Mayville University at the Tucson Invitational. Though the team suffered from few mistakes defensively, the Wolves struggled with strikeouts and lost both games, 5-1 and 7-1.
During the 5-1 loss against Missouri Valley, Stritch recorded only two hits. April Mysliewic (Antioch, Ill.) knocked a single to left field, moving Anna Flock (Norwalk, Wis.), who had reached on an error, into scoring position. After Mysliewic’s hit, Ashley Zdrojeweski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Liz Neitzel (Lomira, Wis.) then earned the lone Stritch RBI in the game, as she brought in Flock with the help of a Missouri Valley error.
Megan Weber (Salem, Wis.) tried to get the Wolves going after two outs in the fifth, as she singled to left, but the spark was quickly put out with one of Janie Jungerman’s 11 strikeouts.
Jungerman was the winning pitcher in the match-up. Flock received the loss and moves to 0-1.
The second game was much of the same, as Mayville jumped out to a 2-0 lead on three first inning hits. Stritch gave up two more runs in the fourth, before finding a way to bring in one of their own in the fifth. Two consecutive walks to Mandi Schroeder (Merrill, Wis.) and Jenny Piotrowski (Stevens Point, Wis.) got things started for the Wolves. The pair was moved over on a hard hit grounder by Val Stramowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) before Schroeder finally scored as Laura Stramowski (Oak Creek, Wis.) reached on an error.
The Wolves gave up three runs to Mayville in the bottom of the fifth and were not able to overcome the deficit in the final innings. Mysliewic recorded the only hit of the game for the Wolves with a single to right in the third.
Mysliewic was the losing pitcher against Mayville. The sophomore, who moves to 0-1 on the season, struck out six batters in four innings of work before the Wolves fell 7-1.
The losses drop Stritch to 0-2 for the season. They will continue play in Tucson for the remainder of the week, facing York College and Hastings on Mar. 16, at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
