Peace and Justice

Our Catholic/Christian faith calls us to practice justice and peacemaking. The Bible spells this out often, from prophets to Jesus and the Apostles. Catholic social teaching applies these scriptures to our current world situation.

St. Francis of Assisi embodied these Gospel values in his life by caring for neglected people with leprosy, taming a hungry wolf to protect the people, calling the elements of creation his brothers and sisters, settling bloody conflicts between local towns, and choosing a poor, simple lifestyle of prayer and service.

We at Stritch find all of these a source of inspiration and challenge, and they call us to similar engagement today.

Stritch offers many opportunities for service. The bulletin board in the breezeway toward the Campus Center lists volunteer opportunities and updates from Milwaukee’s Peace-Action Center. Students can sign up there for the St. Ben’s Meal, serving a hot meal to homeless people; or the Shelter Visit/Service, taking lunch and visiting with the homeless. In addition, the CROP Walk against hunger, which takes place in October, is one way to support those who suffer from hunger locally and around the world.

Do you have a project with a justice theme? Want to start a project and need some support? Contact Sister Adele Thibaudeau, OSF, at (414) 410-4150 for more information.
