Your browsing history FAQ: Financial Aid Eligibility

FAQ: Financial Aid EligibilityDo I need to be enrolled full-time to receive financial aid?

No. In order to be eligible for Stafford Loans, you must be registered at least half time (six credits undergraduate, four credits graduate) each semester. If you are eligible for a Pell Grant, you may be eligible for a partial grant even if you enroll less than half time.

Most Cardinal Stritch University grants and scholarships are contingent on full-time enrollment.

How will summer school affect my financial aid?

In general, the amount of financial aid that a student is eligible for is divided by two, with one half being provided for fall and the other half for spring. If you decide to attend summer school, the annual amount of financial aid that you receive would be spread over the three terms: summer, fall, and spring. As a result, any financial aid used in the summer will impact the fall and spring semesters.

Most Cardinal Stritch University grants and scholarships are not available during the summer.

Can I receive aid as a special student?

No. Students must be admitted to a degree or approved certificate program in order to be eligible for financial aid. Certain private lenders may provide alternative loans to special students.

Am I eligible for financial aid?

In order to be eligible for most sources of financial aid, you must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen, have a valid Social Security number, and have a high school diploma or its equivalent. If you are a male, you must be registered with the Selective Service. In addition, you must not be in default on a student loan or owe an overpayment on a grant.  For more detail, please see General Eligibility

How is aid eligibility determined?

The amount of financial aid you are eligible to receive will be based on:

  • Your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) as determined from your FAFSA form.
  • The amount of financial aid available.
  • Distribution formulas based on university, state and federal guidelines.
  • Other university, state and federal criteria.

What can I do to expedite the process?

The Financial Aid Office may require additional paperwork to process your aid. Promptly returning of all requested materials will expedite the process. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if your enrollment or housing status changes because this could impact your financial aid.

Do I need to be admitted before I can apply for financial aid?

No. You can apply for financial aid at any time after Jan. 1 for the following school year. However, to actually receive funds, you must be admitted and enrolled.
