Eric J. Dimmitt's teaching includes graduate and doctoral level courses in organizational theory, systems thinking, leadership theory, and instructional leadership. He has taught at the undergraduate level in the areas of educational technology, classroom management, assessment, and instructional methods. He has supervised undergraduates and masters level students in teaching and leadership practicums and serves as a chair for doctoral students' dissertations. His research and scholarship includes both studying effective instructional methods, the student experience in online learning environments, and the use of arts integration techniques in leadership preparation programs. He has also researched how school districts create coherence in their goal setting processes, especially between building and district level leadership. His service includes being an active member of state and national organizations committed to advancing learning in K-12 and higher education along with consulting with school districts and other organizations in planning and talent management. In addition to teaching at the university level, he has taught middle school and high school English and speech communication, and he served as a high school assistant principal and as a director of instruction in two school districts. These administrative roles included leading curriculum development processes, designing and providing professional learning for teachers and administrators, and coordinating the districts' assessment programs. He has been responsible for English Language Learner and Gifted/Talented programs, new teacher mentoring programs, federal formula and competitive grants, strategic planning, and other related administrative areas. He holds administrative licenses as a teacher, principal, director of instruction, and school administrator.
