Part One looks at the institutional church, seeking to bring clarity and direction to our strong feelings about the sexual abuse crisis and the inadequate responses of the church over the years. In the context of prayer, this forum will present information about the scope, history, and current status of the sexual abuse crisis, as well as recent national proposals intended to bring greater transparency and accountability. We will consider changes in church culture we might be called to make, and how we can contribute to those changes. The evening will include brief responses from a panel of Catholics with varied perspectives on what is needed most.
Part Two looks at our individual responses to the crisis. While the bishops of the United States are gathered on retreat for reflection and prayer on these issues, we will gather as well, to pray for our church and to reflect on how each of us is moving forward through this crisis. In this time of trial, what are ways that we can persist in hope and not lose heart? And how can each one of us take action, even in small ways, to feel that we are contributing to a healthier, holier church?
