Unleashing the Talent of African American Professionals
Decision makers, communicators and collaborators
The African American Leadership Program (AALP) is transformative – participants grow in confidence and self-awareness and become more effective decision makers, communicators and collaborators.
More than 200 Milwaukee area African American professionals from an array of businesses, professions, and organizations have completed AALP since its inception in 2008.
AALP offers more than 135 hours of programing in a cohort experience that uses action learning, executive coaching, and networking to enhance African American professionals’ ability to lead in the Milwaukee area.
AALP is a program of the African American Leadership Alliance Milwaukee (AALAM). With AALAM, AALP gives Black leaders opportunities to develop themselves and to serve within their organizations and the community. Together, these leaders make Milwaukee a better place for all. AALP is a strategic partner of Cardinal Stritch University.

Who should participate
AALP is open to Black professionals who work in greater Milwaukee area private, public, and nonprofit organizations.
Participants should have a minimum of five years of professional employment, have potential for advancement and hold a position with some influence, which would include at least one of the following: decision-making, program/department management, or supervisory responsibilities. Experienced business owners and entrepreneurs also qualify.

The AALP program will offer African American professionals the opportunity to grow through five content areas of learning:
- Personal development and engagement in Milwaukee
- Business acumen and management skills development
- Career exploration and advancement
- The experience of Blackness
- Action learning project
The program includes
- Opening and closing retreats
- Four (4) face-to-face learning sessions that begin on the evening of Thursday, through the day Friday and conclude on Saturday.
- Four online virtual sessions
- Individual executive coaching
- A 360 review using The Leadership Circle tool
- An action learning group project that has real-world relevance and community impact
- A closing celebration where colleagues, friends and family attend
