Pre-Medicine Program

Ask yourself some questions:
• Do I care deeply about other people, their problems and their pain?
• Do I enjoy helping people with my skills and knowledge?
• Do I enjoy learning, gaining new understanding?
• Am I interested in how the human body functions?

If you answered "yes" to most of these questions, chances are you have the right kind of personality for a medical career. People who wish to become physicians must have a desire to serve patients, be self-motivated, and be able to survive the pressures and long hours of medical education and practice. Physicians also must have a good bedside manner, emotional stability and the ability to make decisions in emergencies. Prospective physicians must be willing to study throughout their career to keep up with medical advances. They also will need to be flexible to respond to the changing demands of a rapidly evolving health care environment.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the May 2015 medial income of physicians was equal to or greater than $187,200. Earnings vary according to specialty, geographic region and years of experience. Employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 14 percent from 2014 to 2024. Job growth is projected due to increased demand for health care services by the growing and aging population.
