A message from Stritch Interim President Dr. Dan Scholz
Dear alumni and friends,
“Back to school” is a very special time of the year. There is such a wondrous sense of anticipation and a boundless sense of opportunity that sends us forth into a new academic year. There is also deep gratitude for the students who have chosen Stritch to continue their educational journey, for the parents who have entrusted their students to us, and for our alumni and friends who demonstrate their belief in and support for our University.
Our Franciscan values are at the core of all we do at Stritch. The 2020-2021 Franciscan value is “Making Peace,” which is particularly timely because of the racial injustice pandemic we are experiencing locally and nationally. The shooting of Jacob Blake and murders of two individuals in Kenosha last month have shaken us to our core. Our Catholic, Franciscan heritage calls us to identify and dismantle the systemic and institutional sin of racism. We are called to stand up with Black people at Stritch, in our community, in our nation and across the globe against these repeated horrific injustices.
Students, faculty and staff have returned to campus for the Fall semester. It is wonderful to see campus come to life with so many new and familiar faces, all wearing the appropriate masks and coverings, I might add. Comprehensive protocols have been developed to maintain an environment that protects everyone’s health, safety and well-being. While physical safety is paramount, we are equally attentive to the mental and emotional needs of our Stritch family. For additional details about our response to COVID-19, please visit the Stritch Unstopped section of our website.
This fall also marks the introduction of a new approach to our academic offerings designed to meet the evolving needs of 21st century learners. Our new, nimble curriculum instills the skills and literacies students will need for long-term career success, no matter their chosen field of study. I look forward to sharing stories of student success over the next several months.
Launching the new curriculum model and ensuring a Stritch education and experience is available for generations to come is one of our chief priorities for the upcoming year. Enhancing relationships with our valued alumni and friends like you will be another area of special focus. I am excited to learn more about why you love and continue to support Stritch. As members of the Stritch family, you play an essential role in helping us achieve our goals that ensure the long-term success of the University.
During my 16 years at Cardinal Stritch University my love for the University, its history, its traditions, and most importantly, its people, has grown and deepened. I sincerely appreciate the confidence the Board of Trustees has placed in me as interim president. I look forward to connecting with you and I thank you for all you do for Stritch. You and your loved ones are in my prayers for continued health, safety and well-being. Please join me in praying for our faculty, staff and, in particular, our students for a successful and fulfilling 2020-2021 academic year.
