CA 331 Overview

This course focuses on dynamics of communication that occur when people from different cultures interact with one another. The course provides an introduction to the primary sensitizing concepts in the field of intercultural communication. The course integrates a variety of learning methods, including lecture, discussion, small group work, simulations and videos. Overall, the goal of this course is to help you increase your understanding of how cultural variations influence the communication process. We will explore how the context of intercultural communication may produce communication anxiety, uncertainty and misunderstandings, as well as what types of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors can increase communication competence (appropriateness and effectiveness).
