NUR 222 Overview

This course introduces pharmacological nursing practice across the lifespan utilizing a conceptual approach. The nurse's professional role related to pharmacotherapeutics in diverse populations will be examined. Safety, legal responsibility and minimization of risk potential will be discussed. Evidence-based pharmacological and pathophysiological concepts are integrated to promote therapeutic understanding of patient response, adverse reaction and patient-centered education. Health care system protocols, communication methods, and informatics related to pharmacotherapeutics are included. Common drug classes and their corresponding pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics are presented. Prerequisite: BSN major, BL 202, BL 203, BL 111 or BL 106, BL 112, CH 107. Corequisite: NUR 110, NUR 210, NUR 220.
