SPN 331 Overview
This course will give the student a broad, general knowledge of the development of major literary trends and prominent authors in Latin America. We will explore the theoretical and historical backgrounds of selected works from the Pre-Columbian period through Modernism to the 21st century. Works usually not included in the literary canon are also analyzed as we discuss various genres, traditions and themes centered on identity, memory, the construction of the nation and displacement. This course is designed for students who are proficient in Spanish and meet the core literature requirement. Prerequisite: SPN 204 or SPN 205.
